Collection of Posts: An Account of Brewing Our Barleywine with Malt Extract

About 14 months ago Bryan and I decided to try to brew a barleywine using extract. Here is an account of the process and our notes along the way. We started at Home Sweet Homebrew in Philadelphia, PA with Nancy's suggestions. A few adjustments were made (because I forgot what she said ;-). Some friends were invited over to help and the rest is history. If you're interested in the recipe let me know. I'll add it to the notes.

I just clicked over to the Home Sweet Homebrew website. Their Beginner set-up seems like a great deal.

Homebrewing is something I _know_ I want to try, but I keep putting it off because it seems like a very addictive hobby.

Heheh...my wife would attest to that :-) Especially when you first get into it.

You do have work to do during the process so, it isn't like watching TV. Honestly, for me it has the perfect balance of process, friends, creativity and accomplishment.

I've ordered a few things through Northern Brewer, if you're looking for someplace to buy equipment. They also have a great catalog with helpful instructions.

Usually I just hit the shops around here. I got started in Ebensburg, PA with stuff from a local shop there.

HA, that's just what I need, something else to bug my wife.

I agree, the process is what makes it even more appealing. I have a few friends who homebrew already, so I'm only a few degrees away from starting. I'm hoping I can just borrow some stuff for my first attempt, brew something basic that I'd enjoy as a go-to beer, say a pale ale.

Thanks for the heads up on Northern Brewer. There's actually also a homebrew supply shop not far from my office.

Call your friends.
Stop and get the ingredients.
You could have it done by 10:00 PM.

Ok...now I want to brew again!
