Rest in Peace 2016 -- Thanks for all the beers

It's time to pull the curtain down on 2016, something that I'm sure not too many will be disappointed to do for at least a few reasons.

Each time this year, I enjoy looking back on the year in many ways, including from the perspective of those we lost. The music industry had its fair share of significant losses this year. And the beer industry had a handful as well. Special thanks to Don Russell (aka Joe Sixpack) for his contribution here.

12/17/15, David Hummer, 81, brief illness
~ Though in 2015, the passing of Boulder Beer Company's co-founder was not announced until January. [link to Boulder's website]

4/21/16, Mary Horton, 52, bicycle accident
~ Any well-studied fan of great beer should recognize Horton's brewery, Fish Brewing Company, that she co-founded in 1993 in Olympia, Washington. [link to The Olympian]

6/19/16, Piero Rodriguez, 34, car accident
~ M.I.A. Beer Company has been making waves in South Florida, just outside of Miami, over the last couple of years since opening. Rodriguez was one of the driving forces behind it. [link to Miami Herald]

12/1/16, Jan Alan Zarkin, 73, ALS
~ Living near the Art Museum in Philly in the mid-1990s, I quickly discovered one of the solidly reliable restaurants/bars in the family-friendly and walkable neighborhood. Rembrandt's was a young establishment at the time and impressed with its kitchen and bar. Zarkin was an original partner. [link to Philly.com]

If you care to look back on the previous nine years that I've been doing this year-end wrap, consult the links here for: 2015,  2014,  2013,  2012,  2011,  2010,  2009,  2008,  and 2007.

As in past years, I'll repeat a soothing message: Be still sad heart and cease repining; Behind the clouds the sun is shining, Thy fate is the common fate of all, Into each life a little rain must fall, Some days must be dark and dreary. ~ Longfellow
