Independence Brew Pub in Philadelphia Shut Down/Closed?

So, another Saturday morning of cruzin' BA and I turn up this interesting post from our local Mr. Sixpack himself. Can't wait to hear more about the future of Independence Brew Pub....

From the Philadelphia Inquirer:

Tapped out
Independence Brew Pub, across Filbert Street from Reading Terminal Market, is gone after six years. As first reported yesterday on Joe Sixpack's blog, brewer Tim Roberts was in mid-batch Friday when the joint was shut down and signs were posted, calling the shutdown temporary. But I hear it's permanent. The space, beneath the old Reading trainshed, is owned by the city Redevelopment Authority. RDA spokesman Frank Keel told me the pub was $800,000 behind in rent, dating back five years. Keel says the Small Business Administration, which had been overseeing the operation for two years, pulled the plug. Reps did not return calls. Though it was unclear yesterday how a business could get into the hole to a government agency for 800 grand, some good arose: Keel says the RDA donated all Independence's nonperishables to the city Office of Emergency Shelter Services.

I was sequestered in jury duty today (tomorrow, also). I'd like to give you credit for dropping me this note, but 'anonymous' will have to do for now....thanks!

p.s. can't wait to see what breaking news I'm greeted with after leaving the courthouse tomorrow.....
