Union Barrel Works in Reamstown, PA is Now Open!

Thanks to loyal reader, Dennis, for sending in some pictures from his first visit to UBW last night. I'm sure he'll be there often as he lives only a 1/2 mile away and his initial reports say the beers are top notch. We'll be there to meet you soon, too!

I had an opportunity to visit the brewpub yesterday to meet some friends for lunch and have some Tom Rupp brews. I have tasted all six of the brews....my favorite was the unfilered Kolsch, the Dopplebock and the Oatmeal-Honey Stout. They have an impressive lunch menu. I had a cup of the Smoked Trout Chowder a hand-carved ham sandwich with provolone cheese. The soup was very good.

Tom gifted us dessert which was two different sorbets....one make with the Dopplebock and one from the Kolsch, the Dopplebock sorbet was the winner.

It's a big, gorgeous place with a beautifully restored turn-of-century bar with plenty of seating in the bar area as well as the dining room area.

Go and enjoy, you won't be disappointed.

Went to Union Barrel Works last evening and enjoyed the beer, the food, and the atmosphere. We sampled all 6 beers. I choose the Kolsch and my boyfriend chose the Round Boy Stout . . . but we found all of the beers to be enjoyable. The menu is extensive including entrees, sandwiches, and salads. Great food!!! We will definitely return!!!

I had dinner there last night. 8-9-07. The cavernous dinning room was very load and definitly not the place for a romantic evening. The beers were good but not great. I think Tom has something against Hops. Our dinners took 1 full hour to arive and although they were hot they were bland. My Chicken Oscar was barely touched by a week Bernaise. My wifes Strip Steak was so-so.I won't eat there again but a may stop for a beer as I live near by.
