Polling all Readers: Session vs. Extreme Beer

So we're curious. Would you rather drink a session beer or an extreme beer or something else? Some might say that the tide is turning toward session beers. We thought it might be fun to try a poll here at The Brew Lounge. So over there on the right you'll see it. Give it a shot. If you participate you get to see the results. We'll also post the final results after we close the poll in a few days. Get your vote in! As always let us know what you think by posting a comment.

I can't vote because...

It depends.

It depends on the weather. It depends on what I'm doing and with whom. It depends on where and why I'm having a beer. It depends on my mood.

what is an extreme beer? examples, perhaps?

Can't answer that because I enjoy both, as long as they're good. If I'm sitting down to a good movie or book and want one beer, I'd go for a really nice impy stout that you can sip all evening.

If I'm having spicy food for dinner, I'd like a couple of hoppy IPAs or even some gueuze.

If I'm at an all day picnic, I'd rather have some lower alcohol bitters or kolsch or wit.

You can't lump us beer geeks into one or the other that easily.

I've got to agree with Al and Nate, what I choose to drink on any given occasion, from style to type is incredibly circumstantial.

That said, choice is the thing that makes that all possible and if more session beers start appearing, thus giving me more options, I'm all for that!

I voted for session simply because I drink more regular, day-in & day-out simple beers than anything else.

Now...what about festivals like the Split Thy Skull(s)? Clearly most patrons will be sessioning extreme beers...in moderation of course. Is this where session and extreme cancel each other out? If so...someone alert Stan H.!

Hehe...

I agree......In my case, It's a mood thing....Thats the beauty of the craft beer movement....we now have amazing array of choices.....and I take advantage of those choices often!

Well I certainly understand everybody's points here.

Come to think of it I'm kinda in the same...er...boats. Of course that's what happens when your devote so much time to BEER.

Mike, that is a great question. I'm going to see what I can do about that.

Gotta go...be back later.

My choice depends...if I'm at home, in for the night and just want one, then a big beer. If I'm out with friends, then a session.

I agree that it is a tough question... but I think I get more excited about drinking extreme beers than Session.

nothing can compare to the excitement of trying an extreme beer...especially if it is a good one.
